In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic. Many people could not, and cannot, afford to prepare for how COVID-19 is affecting their family.
United Way Yukon is working with other non-profits and local governments to provide help to Yukoners impacted by the measures taken to combat the spread of COVID-19.
We all need to pull together to meet this challenge and we have two ways for you to help, and one way for you to ask for support.
First, we have partnered with Volunteer Bénévoles Yukon to create Yukonnection where you can volunteer to help someone in need, or ask for help if the COVID-19 restrictions are impacting you.
Second, to help people who are struggling financially and need help buying basic necessities, we have purchased $25 Loblaw's gift cards that can be used at Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart or Wykes' Your Independent Grocer (thanks to Mark Wykes for donating some extra cards to our $5000 purchase!)
We have partnered with Yukon University Foundation to provide students who have lost part time jobs with some of the gift cards, and we will continue to work with other agencies to identifying people who need some support.
If you wish to help out with this, please consider making a donation to our COVID-19 Community Response Fund All money donated to this fund will be immediately directed to our COVID-19 initiatives. Every $25 donation buys another gift card!
Because we could all use some Local Love in a Global Crisis.
